Hawks’ district opener halted by storms
ZEARING — Rain, lightning and thunder are not optimal conditions for any sport — especially Iowa’s full summer slate of baseball and softball contests.
When storms rolled through central Iowa, it suspended play for a whole host of district baseball games this past Saturday evening — including the South Hamilton baseball team’s Class 1A-District 3 first-round matchup against Colo-NESCO, held at Duane Newton Field.
Officials called for postponement at the top of the third inning, with South High holding a 1-0 advantage on the Royals.
The Hawks (9-12) and Royals (11-13) will resume play at 7 p.m. tonight at Duane Newton Field. The game will pick up where it left off.
