Webster City boys close out tennis campaign
BOONE — The season came to an end for the Webster City boys tennis team here Saturday during a Class 1A district tournament.
Nathan Wardell picked up a first round win over Erik Larson of St. Edmond in the singles draw, 6-1, 6-2, before falling to Owen Galvin of Denison-Schleswig, 6-1, 6-1. Wardell is the lone senior on the roster for the Lynx.
Sage Bock dropped a match to Colin Ernesti of Bishop Heelan in the opening round, 6-0, 6-1.
“It was good to get a lot of our younger guys out there to experience districts and get a feel for how things go,” WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. “Definitely saw some progress.
“The day was obviously a little shorter than we would have liked, but this group showed the progress they’ve made and proud of the work they’ve put in.”
Both Webster City doubles teams lost in the opening round, as Blake Arjes and Max Anderson fell to a pair from St. Edmond while Fabian Ferto-Holdgrafer and Vincent Bittner dropped a match to a duo from Audubon.
