Members of the Town and Country Garden Club were out early Wednesday morning with gloves, trowels and lots of flowers, as they tackled the task of adding color to downtown Webster City.
Dick Carlson supervises the group, and offers helpful advice and a helping hand where needed. Carlson has maintained the pocket park by the Elks building for many years, and knows what works best with limited sunlight in the downtown areas.
68 planters were filled by the busy ladies, with plants purchased through the downtown SSMID (Self Supported Municipal Improvement District). The planters, purchased about 25 years ago, are located along the SSMID sidewalks, and it takes multiple plants to fill each one, with room to grow during the spring, summer and fall seasons. Petunias, verbena and thriller grasses are carefully placed in each of the planters.
The members of the Town and Country club split up to tackle the project, which they finished by noon. Those helping plant included Sharon Cline, Carol Maine, Peggy Miller, Joyce Harms Cheryl Entricken, Bonnie McCollough, Barb Ratcliff and Diane Madoerin.
These details beautify the downtown area in time for visitors who attend JunqueFest and other Memorial Day weekend events.
