CHARLES CITY — It was a history-making night for the Webster City girls here on Monday.

In a 9-0 victory over Charles City, Janey Putney recorded a double hat track, scoring six goals. With the scoring frenzy, Putney became the school’s single-season leader in goals with 28 and also become the career goals scored leader.

Putney passed Molly Gilbert’s mark of 27 for the single-season record and bested Sarah Steen’s total of 58 for the career one.

Jayme Perez also became the single-season assist leader with 16, passing the mark set by Jill Symens at 13.

“These two have trained together all year and their on-field chemistry is unmatched,” WCHS head coach Kristine Mason said. “I’m so proud of the example they set for the next generation and so glad their hard work is paying off in the numbers.”

Sandra Fuentes-Cruz, Kendra Schultz and Carmen Santiago each had a goal vs. the Comets, as Perez finished with five assists. Fuentes-Cruz, Santiago, Avril Borjas and Ashlee Nydegger each had one.

Megan VanDeer saved both shots she faced in net.
