Busy stretch continues for Webster City wrestlers

The Webster City wrestling team took part in the Allie Morrison Duals in Marshalltown this past Saturday. The Lynx dropped a close 42-37 decision to Sioux City East, along with falling in duals to Johnston, the host Bobcats, Cedar Falls and Bondurant-Farrar. Cody Elliott finished a perfect 5-0 on the day, as Gavin Wynkoop went 4-1. CHARLES CITY — Evie Davis and the Webster City girls rang in the new year with a resounding 71-20 victory over Charles City here on Saturday. Davis, a sophomore post player, had 23 points and 16 rebounds to pace the Lynx (3-4 overall). Davis made nine of her 16 shots from the floor. Webster City shot an efficient 51 percent as a team. Lynx boys shake off Charles City

CHARLES CITY — The Webster City boys basketball squad pulled away from Charles City in their first game of the new year on Saturday, posting a 68-55 road victory. The Lynx (2-2 overall) outscored the Comets (0-5) in the fourth quarter, 25-13, turning a slim lead into a comfortable win. Junior Coyce Bertran had a career-high 27 points to lead Webster City. Lynx wrestlers in action at Fort Dodge

FORT DODGE — The Webster City wrestling team competed at the 51st annual Don Miller Invitational on Saturday. The Lynx placed ninth and scored 56.5 points. Jaysen Vankham (4-5) had the highest finish for Webster City, placing third at 138. Vankham reached the semifinals with a pin. Vankham lost to Will Larson of Decorah in the semis. ALGONA — The Webster City boys basketball team ran into a buzzsaw on Friday night. Algona (3-1 overall) used a 28-point performance from Jacob Burns to post a 75-48 victory over the Lynx (1-2). For Webster City, Jaxon Griffith led the way with 14 points. Zack Lahr added 10 points. Algona’s Levi Walker (11) and Nathan Manske (10), Jaxon Eischen (11) and Landon Campbell (10) also scored in double figures. Coyce Bertran was near double digits with eight points for the Lynx.
