Lynx boys fall to Clear Lake

The Webster City boys tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Clear Lake on Monday afternoon.

Nathan Wardell pushed his match to a super-tiebreaker after splitting two sets with Walker Willams at the No. 1 singles spot.

Wardell dropped the first set, 6-3, bouncing back to take the second, 6-2. Williams, though, won the match with a 13-11 victory in the super-tiebreaker.

Max Anderson and James Elliott both won four games in their singles matches, as did the doubles pair of Wardell and Sage Bock. Blake Arjes picked up three games, with both Bock and Vincent Bittner each winning two.

“Give credit to Clear Lake, as they are a well-coached team and they played well,” WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. “But I was also impressed with a lot of the strides we took. One of the best things is guys are coming to the fence during change-overs and often times are now able to tell me what they are seeing and what they need to adjust to, as opposed to me doing all the talking.

“It shows that they are growing and they are becoming more confident and smarter players.”

Webster City is off until Friday when they host Hampton-Dumont/CAL for Senior Day. Wardell is the lone senior on the roster.

Starting at $3.46/week.
