G-H/V girls rally past Webster City
GARNER — The Webster City girls soccer team dropped a tough 4-2 decision to Garner-Hayfield/Ventura here Monday night.
After taking a 2-0 lead, the Lynx were unable to avoid some bad luck.
“It was another heartbreaker for us,” WCHS head coach Kristine Mason said. “At the start of the second half, Kate (Feltz) chased down a save and, by accident, grabbed the ball outside of her box, resulting in an unfortunate handball that was a goal off a free kick.
“From there, we seemed to lose our footing and Garner-Hayfield/Ventura gained momentum with their fast attack. Kate went up for a save off the crossbar and landed on her foot wrong and sprained her ankle. She had to come out of the game and will probably have to sit out for the next few weeks until it heals.
“We have some solid backup goalie options, but this is a huge loss to our very established back line.”
Janey Putney recorded both goals for Webster City, as Jayme Perez and Kendra Schultz each had an assist. Putney finished with four shots, Sandra Fuentes-Cruz had three and both Schultz and Ashlee Nydegger each had one.
The Lynx host Iowa Falls-Alden on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
