Baker Memorial back on the track

Hamilton County Speedway will try once again to honor a Webster City racing icon later this month.

After rain caused the first attempt at the Mike Baker Memorial to be called off after a handful of races, track officials have declared Saturday, July 27 the new date for the event.

Along with honoring Baker, who passed away last year, the show will also be Kid’s Night at the Fair Races and HCSRA Hall of Fame Night presented by Good Life RV.

“We tried hard to get the races in, but unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned,” said Todd Staley, promoter of Hamilton County Speedwat. “I enjoyed working with Mike when he was alive, and I am enjoying working with Kathy on this event. She and her family have worked hard to bring extra money to the drivers.

“I was happy with the car count and the fans attending on July 6. We will, of course, be honoring any ticket or pit pass from July 6 returned to the gate on July 27. As announced, if you do not have your ticket or pit pass, no credit will be given, and you will be required to purchase another ticket or pit pass.”

The night will begin at 4 p.m. with a driver autograph session north of the ticket booth. Pit gates will open at 3:30 p.m. with racing action kicking off at 7:30 p.m.

Classes featured will include the Olsen Family USRA Modifieds, Seneca Foundry USRA Stock Cars, Stein Heating and Cooling USRA B-Mods, USRA Hobby Stocks, A1 Automotive USRA Tuners and Crown Vics. The Mike Baker family raised $5,700, which will go to each division payout.

Starting at $3.46/week.
