Lynx can’t stop No. 15 Lions
CLEAR LAKE — The Webster City softball team fell in North Central Conference action here Wednesday night to No. 15 (Class 3A) Clear Lake, 13-6.
Morgan Hackbarth finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, recording a triple and a double. Morgan Tempel had two hits, scored a run and drove in a run while Alivia Burns scored twice.
Burns worked two walks and reached base after being hit by a pitch. Haydin Sealine, Hayden McCoy and Jaylyn Bahrenfuss each drove in a run, with Briley VanDeer reaching base twice on walks with a run scored and a stolen base.
“I thought we came out ready to play,” WCHS head coach Brad VanDeer said. “Liv walked to start the game and we executed behind her to start off with the lead. It’s nice to start fast on the road and try and put some pressure on the home team.
“They jumped us pretty good in the bottom of the inning. We weren’t quite sharp enough to start. We didn’t do anything really bad that inning, but small mistakes get exposed by good teams.”
The Lynx (2-3 overall) scored a run in the first and five more in the fifth.
Webster City hosts No. 6 (1A) St. Edmond on Friday night.
