Valiant effort: Webster City can’t catch St. Edmond
The Webster City girls had one of their best quarters of the year here Tuesday night.
After falling behind by 15 at the break to St. Edmond, the Lynx rallied in the third before coming up short, 42-35.
Olivia Gallentine had a game-high 16 points to lead the way for Webster City, as Marissa Hedeen added eight and Joleah Stuhr seven.
Josie Harvey and Chloe Palmer paced the Gaels with 12 each.
“I was extremely proud of the way our girls fought back in the second half,” WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. “Our defense and our rebounding gave us a chance to get back in the game and gave us a chance late.”
The Lynx would go on a 15-3 run in the third, cutting the deficit down to two early in the fourth.
Stuhr had a team-high 10 rebounds with five coming on the offensive glass. Hedeen had six boards and both Ady Poppen and Addyson Beaulieu pulled down five each.
Webster City returns to action on Thursday when they host Iowa Falls-Alden in a North Central Conference contest.
