BUSY SLATE

Carlos Alaniz found the back of the net in the first half and the Webster City boys soccer team silenced Iowa Falls-Alden from there, scoring a 1-0 victory Monday night.

The Lynx then turned around and played to a scoreless draw on Tuesday against Wright County.

Alaniz, a sophomore, converted one of his two shots on goal in the win over the Cadets. Edwin Ramos Nolasco saved all three attempts in the net.

Webster City had plenty of chances, putting 11 shots on goal and attempting 25 shots on the night. David Villelas had eight shots, as Jaime Martinez Andrial led with three shots on goal. Franky Bernal, Aeden Anderson, Franciso Revolorio Guinac, Aaron Mendoza, Dany Morales, Geovany Morales Lopez and Abisai Ramirez-Carmona all had at least one shot.

The Lynx (4-1-1 overall, 4-1-1 in the North Central Conference) have won 12 consecutive meetings with IF-A, including back-to-back shutouts. They lead the series since 2011, 23-7, with the last loss coming in 2019.

Webster City found itself in a defensive slugfest with Wright County, as neither team found the back of the net.

“Both teams played with a lot of effort,” WCHS head coach Craig Signorin said. “It was tough to possess on both sides. We each had minimal chances, so credit to both back lines.”

Webster City had eight shots with four on goal compared to seven shots for Wright County with four on goal. Morales and Guinac each had two shots, with one each on goal, as Anderson and Mendoza both had one on goal.

Nolasco saved all four shots he faced in net.

The Lynx Humboldt on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Starting at $3.46/week.
