South Hamilton girls brave the elements

STORY CITY — Sometimes, Mother Nature wants to deal plenty of cold and wet to athletes, especially around this time of year.

Last Thursday, the South Hamilton girls’ golf team endured through those elements, taking a short trip south to compete at the Roland-Story Girls’ Quad, held at River Bend Golf Course in Story City. There, South Hamilton faced West Marshall, Roland-Story, North Polk and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows.

The Hawks didn’t do too bad in the conditions, taking fourth in the team standings with a collective score of 230 strokes. Leading the way for South High was junior Rebekah Carlson, who came out with a 51.

“(The meet) was a little reminder of how last golf season was, weather wise,” said Kathi Fisher, SH girls’ golf coach.

The Hawks will return home today, hosting Saydel and St. Edmond for a girls’ triangular. The meet is slated for 4:30 p.m. at the Jewell Golf and Country Club.

At River Bend Golf Course, senior Erin Hassebrock carded a 56, followed by junior Abby Adamski’s 61.

Senior Savanna Freeman came away with a 62 for the Hawks.

West Marshall won the meet with a 192, followed by Roland-Story’s 194 and North Polk’s 203.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows finished with 238.

Starting at $3.46/week.
