The Webster City softball team had a tough first inning here Monday night vs. Humboldt.
The Wildcats plated six runs right out of the gates, picking up a 10-0 victory in five innings over the Lynx.
Morgan Hackbarth had the lone hit for Webster City, recording a double. Briley VanDeer finished with four strikeouts inside the circle.
“Humboldt came out ready to go,” WCHS head coach Brad VanDeer said. “We miss played a few balls early in the first inning and gave them some extra opportunities and they took advantage.
“We didn’t do what we needed to do to stop the run and dug a big hole. Humboldt was very good defensively.”
For Humboldt, Hayden Graaf had four hits and scored two runs. Wildcat teammate Elyse Olson drove in four runs, and Abby Armitage had three RBI with two hits and two runs scored.
Webster City heads to Clear Lake on Wednesday night. First pitch is slated for 7:30 p.m. in the varsity contest.
