Lynx can’t catch Falcons
APLINGTON — The Webster City boys soccer team was denied a fourth consecutive state tournament appearance here last Friday night, falling to Aplington-Parkersburg in a thrilling Class 2A final, 3-2.
The Lynx received two goals from Abisai Ramirez-Carmona, as he found the back of the net in the 20th minute of the first half to cut a 2-0 deficit to one and again in the 42nd minute.
Both teams would be held off the scoreboard in the second half.
Last year, Webster City (11-3-3 overall) topped the Falcons (13-3-2) in the final to advance to state, where they would reach the semifinals for the first time in program history.
Gilbert, Bishop Heelan, Knoxville, Des Moines Christian, Mount Vernon, Unity Christian and Dubuque Wahlert round out the state field.
The Lynx have won 57 matches over the past four seasons, as they will lose just seniors in Felix Thorkildsen and Geovany Morales Lopez.
