APLINGTON — The Webster City boys soccer team was denied a fourth consecutive state tournament appearance here last Friday night, falling to Aplington-Parkersburg in a thrilling Class 2A final, 3-2. NEWELL — The Webster City baseball team improved to 9-0 on the season with a 7-4 victory over Newell-Fonda here last Friday night. The Lynx got a 10-strikeout performance on the mound from Alex Staley, as he allowed just one hit over five innings. Aiden Hrnicek had a solo home run and Braylon Dyvig stole three bases with a double, as Carter Mickelson added a double. NEVADA — The season came to an end for the Webster City girls soccer team here last Thursday vs. Nevada. The Cubs advanced to the Class 2A, Region 5 semifinals with a 9-0 victory over the Lynx. Nevada (8-5-2 overall) will now take on Gilbert (12-0-2) Tuesday night. Webster City (7-9-1) tied for the most wins in a season by the program since 2014 when they won nine matches. JEWELL — The South Hamilton baseball team opened the season with pair of games last week. After falling to Nevada, 17-0, the Hawks dropped a 17-7 decision to Gladbrook-Reinbeck. Both Holden Moore and Brody Harris had two hits, drove in two runs and scored a run vs. Gladbrook-Reinbeck, as Jackson Olmstead scored twice and stole three bases Garrett Johnson and Titus Herrick each added an RBI and a run scored.
