ALGONA – The Webster City cross country team faced several North Central Conference rivals and other talented programs here on Monday at the Algona Invitational.

The boys finished 10th overall and the girls were 11th. Sioux Center won the boys title, while Clear Lake took home top honors on the girls side.

Daniel Murillo-Delfin took 21st in 18:06 to lead the Lynx boys. Max Barrick was 47th in 18:55, as Aidan Wardell placed 64th, Kaleb Draeger 72nd and Jordan Betts 78th.

Kade Kruger crossed in 81st and Grayson Henderson was 84th for Webster City.

"Finally, a dry night for a meet," WCHS head coach Derek Turner said. "There were perfect conditions, and I thought our team competed well against a quality field of runners from across the state.

"Daniel and Max had really well-rounded efforts. It was a tougher course, but I'm pleased with how we attacked the hills and made moves when we could."

For the girls, Izzy Grossoehme was once again the lead runner. The senior clocked a time of 22:03 to place 23rd overall. Lyla Brookshire was 37th in 22:48, Mckenna Buakham placed 74th, Rubi Andrade-Murillo was 85th and Marlene Saavedra-Mendoza 86th for the counters.

Rounding out the varsity lineup were Quynn Pruismann in 89th and Megan VanDeer in 104th.

"Izzy and Lyla led our girls," Turner said. "As a group, they really performed well. The last two meets, they have improved so much. They have had great starts, been more competitive and more PRs and season-bests.

"It's getting to the point where the main focus is to get everyone through the next few weeks healthy for our conference meet. We are a little beat up on both sides."

Race winners were Henry Hansen of Mason City and Audrina Jones from Sioux Center.

In junior varsity action for Webster City, Ben Barner was 22nd, Enrique Brito Ceto 36th, Braxton Plain 44th, Owen Anderson 45th and Dany Morales 90th.

The Lynx head to Hampton on Thursday to race next.
