NEWELL — The Webster City baseball team improved to 9-0 on the season with a 7-4 victory over Newell-Fonda here last Friday night. The Lynx got a 10-strikeout performance on the mound from Alex Staley, as he allowed just one hit over five innings. Aiden Hrnicek had a solo home run and Braylon Dyvig stole three bases with a double, as Carter Mickelson added a double. NEVADA — The season came to an end for the Webster City girls soccer team here last Thursday vs. Nevada. The Cubs advanced to the Class 2A, Region 5 semifinals with a 9-0 victory over the Lynx. Nevada (8-5-2 overall) will now take on Gilbert (12-0-2) Tuesday night. Webster City (7-9-1) tied for the most wins in a season by the program since 2014 when they won nine matches. DES MOINES — Four members of the South Hamilton track and field team finished up the season here at the state championships from Drake Stadium. Junior Tessa Skartvedt had the best finish, placing 10th in the Class 2A shot put event. Isabel Swenson was 16th in the high jump, Jesus Garcia took 19th in the 3,200-meter run and Daytona Ferrie was 23rd in the discus.
