WAVERLY – The Webster City cross country teams were in action here Tuesday at the stacked Dick Pollitt Classic hosted by Waverly-Shell Rock at the Max Championship Course.
Izzy Grossoehme led the way for the Lynx, as she was fifth overall in the girls race. The senior clocked a time of 20:34, placing her even closer to setting the school record.
Webster City was 11th overall in the girls team standings and finished eighth in the boys.
"A wet, but good day of racing in Waverly," WCHS head coach Derek Turner said. "Our girls started off the meet well for us, as Izzy had her best race of the year and maybe of her career.
"The rest of the girls had solid runs despite the wet and slippery conditions. I'm happy with the progress we are making and the fact that we know where we can make improvements for the coming weeks."
Lyla Brookshire placed 59th in 23:53, as Rubi Andrade-Murillo was 89th. Marlene Saavedra Mendoza finished 99th, Haedyn Soesbee was 100th, Megan VanDeer finished 107th, Quynn Pruismann was 116th, Mckenna Buakham was 118th and Lilly Mourlam was 156th.
Leading the way for the Webster City boys was Daniel Murillo-Delfin, as the junior placed 32nd in 18:18. Aiden Wardell was just behind him, finishing 39th in 18:36.
Kaleb Draeger was 61st, Jordan Betts finished 74th, Grayson Henderson was 93rd, Kade Kruger finished 97th, Enrique Brito Ceto was 102nd, Ben Barner was 105th, Braxton Plain was 113th and Max Barrick was 144th.
"The boys had a solid showing," Turner said. "Daniel and Aiden led us with really solid showings. The other scoring runners delivered several season and personal bests.
"We are trending in the right direction, but we can still improve across the board."
The Lynx head to Huxley for the Mike Carr Invitational hosted by Ballard on Monday.
