Webster City can’t slow Fort Dodge on the road

FORT DODGE – The Webster City football team ran into a Class 4A buzzsaw here on Friday night.
The Lynx dropped a 57-0 decision to Fort Dodge, which remained unbeaten on the young season.
The Dodgers (2-0 overall) have 15 starters back from their 8-1 playoff squad of a year ago. They were impressive on both sides of the ball against Webster City (0-2), which couldn’t get its offense on track and wasn’t able to slow down a balanced Fort Dodge attack.
“I’m proud of the kids for their effort and resiliency,” Lynx head coach Andy Brim said. “They’ve been dealt a tough hand with (a smaller roster) and the schedule we play (ranked the third-toughest in 3A to date), but not one kid has backed down.
“Fort Dodge is a 4A team that doesn’t have to play anyone both ways (offensively and defensively in the same game), so that’s tough to match up with – and amplified on a hot, humid night (the temperature at kickoff was 90 degrees with a heat index close to 100).”
Coyce Bertran rushed for 66 yards on 16 carries for the Lynx, and Kaleb Hansen added 62 yards on the ground. Boston Farley recorded 1.5 tackles for loss, while Zack Lahr, Grant Arends and Peyton Weisberg also added TFLs.
Hansen was Webster City’s top tackler. Mavryk Arends recovered a fumble.
“Our kids continue to work every day to be a better team each day,” Brim added.
The Lynx had defeated the Dodgers four consecutive seasons from 2021-24 after the rivalry had been renewed. Last year, Webster City dropped a 7-6 decision to Fort Dodge.
The Lynx return to action in their home opener this Friday against another Top-5 opponent in 3A power Clear Lake.
