Hawks post 52-0 shutout of Panorama

JEWELL -- After a rough season opener, the South Hamilton football team came back with vengeance last Friday at home.
The Hawks (1-1 overall) rolled past Panorama (0-3) by a final of 52-0.
South Hamilton had suffered a 48-point setback in their first contest.
“I thought the guys had a great week of preparation,” said Hawk head coach Cole Billerbeck, who picked up his first victory as head coach. “They were locked in all week, and their hard work paid off.”
It was a quick start for the Hawks, who had 32 points in the first quarter alone. Everything South Hamilton did was on the ground, as the Hawks fan the ball 34 times for 438 yards.
“I thought the offensive line played great and opened up big holes that allowed our backs to have big nights,” Billerbeck said. “Defensively, our two main goals were to win the turnover battle and force a shutout. We accomplished both of those.”
Wyatt Gelder had a night to remember, running the ball for 234 yards and four touchdowns. The junior’s longest run of the night was for 90 yards.
Gelder carried the ball only 10 times to reach that total.
Maddux Becker had a two-yard touchdown run, Kash Northrop had five rushes for 98 yards and a 27-yard trip to the end zone.
Kaden Dean led the defense with a 39-yard interception return for a score. Garrett Johnson also had an interception. Brian Barquist recovered a fumble.
“I’m proud of how the guys handled the heat and were able to stay locked in mentally, despite the temperature (near 90 at kickoff with a heat index close to 100).”
South Hamilton next faces Southeast Valley on Friday back at home at 7 p.m.
