Webster City boys close out tennis campaign

BOONE — The season came to an end for the Webster City boys tennis team here Saturday during a Class 1A district tournament. Nathan Wardell picked up a first round win over Erik Larson of St. Edmond in the singles draw, 6-1, 6-2, before falling to Owen Galvin of Denison-Schleswig, 6-1, 6-1. Wardell is the lone senior on the roster for the Lynx. CHARLES CITY — The Webster City boys soccer team picked up another win, shutting out Charles City here Tuesday, 3-0. Aaron Mendoza, Dany Morales and Abisai Ramirez-Carmona each had a goal, with Mendoza and Morales scoring in the first half. Lynx will run at Clear Lake

The Webster City track and field teams will see several familiar faces on Thursday when they compete in Clear Lake at a Class 3A qualifying meet. Field events begin at 4 p.m. with running to start 45 minutes later. Joining the Lynx will be Charles City, the host Lions, Decorah, Hampton-Dumont/CAL, Humboldt, Independence and Nevada. Automatic qualifiers will be first and second place finishes in each event, with the next eight-best from all the districts also advancing to Drake Stadium in Des Moines when the state meet begins on May 21.
