Hawks rally to stay alive
JEWELL — A stunning second half rally helped the South Hamilton football team reach the second round of the playoffs once again.
The Hawks received touchdowns from both Ashton Williams and Kolby Hodnefield, erasing a 21-8 deficit to stun Sioux Central here Friday night, 22-21.
With the win, South Hamilton (5-4 overall) advances to face Dike-New Hartford on Friday in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs.
Two third-quarter touchdowns by Williams and what would be the eventual game-winning points on a successful conversion from Nick Severseike provided the Hawks with their third straight appearance in the Round of 16.
Williams, a senior who finished with 71 yards, scored on the opening drive of the second half. Severseike, who was held to just 16 yards rushing, had his two-point conversion on the second scoring drive of the quarter.
Hodnefield ran 12 times for 83 yards and had a touchdown in the first half.
On defense, Williams recorded a pair of tackles for loss with 8.5 stops total. Brody Harris had a team-high 10.5 tackles and Hodnefield added 8.5. Severseike also had an interception, returning it 42 yards to set up a South Hamilton score.
For Sioux Central, Kinnick Fahrenkorg ran 39 times for 159 yards and three touchdowns.
Dike-New Hartford (8-1) jumped all over Ogden, posting a 54-0 victory. They scored six touchdowns in the first half as Noah Borcherding finished with 158 yards and three TDs on the ground.
