Arnold leads WCHS golfers to 6th at Kuemper

CARROLL — The Webster City boys’ golf team found itself in the middle of the pack, both as a team and individually, at Saturday’s Carroll Kuemper Invite at the Carroll Country Club.

Without a player on the first page of the leaderboard, the Lynx found themselves in sixth among the 13 teams in the field. They fired a 345 and won a card-off against host Kuemper for the sixth spot.

Spirit Lake, which had the second- and third-place individuals, claimed the team title with a 322. Eight shots back in second was Spencer (330), followed by Carroll (338) and ADM (340).

Humboldt (346) and St. Edmond (362) — expected to be the Lynx two biggest challengers at today’s North Central Conference tournament at the Fort Dodge Country Club — were eighth and ninth, respectively.

Garrett Arnold put together a consistent round of 83 to pace WCHS. The Lynx five other players were separated by just one shot. Beau Klaver and Drew Schwering both shot 87, while Tyler Olson, Trey Lyons and Chase Rattenborg all turned in rounds of 88.

Lyons struggled on the front nine, but caught fire for a 38 on the back.
