South Hamilton earns four titles at home meet

JEWELL — Competing at their home event here Thursday, the South Hamilton boys track and field team secured four golds and finished fifth overall.

Hampton-Dumont/CAL was crowned team champions at Mike Penning Athletic Complex followed closely by Des Moines Christian. Garner-Hayfield/Ventura was third and Roland-Story fourth.

Ty Koehnk earned a pair of first place finishes, clocking a time of 51.96 to capture the 400 while going 23.22 to win the 200.

The sprint medley relay of Nick Severseike, Jonathan Drake, Kolby Hodnefield and Reece Ricke also placed first, posting a time of 1:39.61. Koehnk added a third gold as the lead leg of the 4×400, as Ricke, Severseike and Hodnefield joined him in going 3:32.70 to win by almost seven seconds.

Noah Gunderson was the 100-meter dash runner-up with Hodnefield placing second to Koehnk in the 200. Both the distance medley relay (Severseike, Ricke, Drake and Pete Coburn) and the 4×200 relay (Hodnefield, Severseike, Ricke, Koehnk) finished second.

Titus Herrick was third in the discus with teammate Davien Henderson placing fifth. Gunderson (200) and Coburn (1,600) each added fifths.

South Hamilton runs Monday at the Gilbert Bengal Relays.
