Power play by Olson helps Hawks top Gilbert

GILBERT – Ronnie Olson took the lead for South Hamilton’s explosive offense last night in a 7-2 Heart of Iowa Conference victory over Gilbert.

The sophomore slugger bashed a second-inning solo home run to go along with two doubles and two RBI, as the Hawks finished off a sweep of the two-game season series with the Tigers.

South Hamilton (9-12, 4-8 HOIC) finished with 11 hits. Carly Swenson roped a single, double and drove in one run. Leandra Diersen slapped a pair of singles and plated a run, Allyson Ervin connected for two singles, and Alyssa Hegland and Kali Lucas both added a base knock.

Olson’s second-inning dinger was part of a three-run frame. The Hawks added two in the third and one in the fourth.

Gilbert (3-15, 1-10) connected for seven hits off Diersen. The Hawks’ hurler struck out two and walked one.
