WEBSTER CITY — St. Edmond controlled play at the top of the lineup, but Webster City’s deeper bench proved beneficial in a season-opening boys’ tennis meet Tuesday afternoon at the Lynx courts.

Webster City’s Nos. 3-6 singles players all picked up victories, as did the No. 3 doubles team, to carry the Lynx to a 5-4 victory over the Gaels.

Chase Black, George Vila, Brody Henderson and Jayden Wibholm all served their way to singles victories to give WCHS a 4-2 advantage entering doubles. St. Edmond responded with wins in the Nos. 1 and 2 bouts, but the team of Vila and Walter Moreira cruised in the No. 3 match to clinch the team win.

Vila swept the Gaels’ Drew Anderson, 10-0, in the No. 4 singles match. Wibholm matched his effort at No. 6 against Casten Wacholz.

Vila and Moreira gave up just one game in a 10-1 romp of Wacholz and Drew Stanek.
