South Hamilton girls compete in front of their fans

The South Hamilton girls got the chance to shine in front of the home crowd here Tuesday night at the Hawkette Relays.

Roland-Story was able to push ahead for team gold, finishing just ahead of the host school. Northwood-Kensett, Collins-Maxwell, Des Moines Christian and Clarion-Goldfield/Dows rounded out the standings.

Daytona Ferrie and Kendra Hoversten made it a clean sweep of the throwing events for the Hawks, as Ferrie captured the discus and Hoversten the shot put.

Ferrie had a throw of 99-8 to hold off Hoversten, as she placed second. Hoversten’s launch of 32-10 won her the shot put.

Sydnee Flaugh, Makena Galetich, Tanna Thompson and Ashlyn Erickson cruised a gold in the sprint medley relay, clocking a time of 2:00.64 to win the event by almost three seconds.

In the final event of the night, the 4×400 relay of Brooklyn Doolittle, Galetich, Erickson and Thompson posted a 4:39.14 to pick up first place over Des Moines Christian.

Thompson was the 400 runner-up, with Kayley Zanker scoring silver in the 3,000. The 4×100, 4×200, 4×800 and distance medley relays all added second place finishes.

Flaugh, Galetich, Erickson and Thompson comprised the 4×100, Doolittle, Galetich, Sara Scheller and Erickson the 4×200, Olivia Beaune, Cici Herrick, Bianca Seaton and McKenna Miller the 4×800 and Lillie Ammerman, Scheller, Miller and Beaune the distance medley.

The 4×200 was less than a second behind race winner Des Moines Christian.

Galetich finished third in the 100, and Tessa Skartvedt scored bronze in the shot put. Flaugh was fourth in the 100, as was Herrick in the 800, Skartvedt in the discus and Grace Neuberger in the high jump.

Jillian Hesse, Abigail Moline, Valerie Harlan and Vivian Swenson took fourth in the shuttle hurdle relay.

Doolittle was fifth in the 200, Claire Hewitt fifth in the long jump, Flaugh sixth in the 200 and Isabel Swenson sixth in the high jump.

South Hamilton will have the 4×100 competing this Saturday at the Drake Relays after running Friday in West Marshall.
