Lynx girls fall short in postseason

NEVADA — The season came to an end for the Webster City girls soccer team here last Thursday vs. Nevada. The Cubs advanced to the Class 2A, Region 5 semifinals with a 9-0 victory over the Lynx. Nevada (8-5-2 overall) will now take on Gilbert (12-0-2) Tuesday night. Webster City (7-9-1) tied for the most wins in a season by the program since 2014 when they won nine matches. Hawks drop pair of baseball games

JEWELL — The South Hamilton baseball team opened the season with pair of games last week. After falling to Nevada, 17-0, the Hawks dropped a 17-7 decision to Gladbrook-Reinbeck. Both Holden Moore and Brody Harris had two hits, drove in two runs and scored a run vs. Gladbrook-Reinbeck, as Jackson Olmstead scored twice and stole three bases Garrett Johnson and Titus Herrick each added an RBI and a run scored. South Hamilton heads to Des Moines to take on Grand View Christian on Wednesday and is at Roland-Story on Friday. They make their home debut on Monday vs. West Marshall.

Hawks run at state track

DES MOINES — Four members of the South Hamilton track and field team finished up the season here at the state championships from Drake Stadium. Junior Tessa Skartvedt had the best finish, placing 10th in the Class 2A shot put event. Isabel Swenson was 16th in the high jump, Jesus Garcia took 19th in the 3,200-meter run and Daytona Ferrie was 23rd in the discus. Skartvedt just missed out on advancing to the finals, recording a best of 36-11.5. She also had throws of 34-9.75 and 33-9.25.
