GILBERT – The Webster City football team hits the road for one final non-district game this Friday night here vs. Gilbert.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
The Lynx (0-3 overall) have played a gauntlet of contenders in Class 4A and 3A to begin the season, falling to Iowa Falls-Alden, Fort Dodge and Clear Lake. That won't get any easier this week with the Tigers (2-1).
Gilbert graduated a loaded senior class and started the year off with a loss to Carroll. They have since rebounded, besting Mason City, 44-6, and Boone, 16-0.
Joe Niegsch, a sophomore, leads the team with 243 yards rushing and five touchdowns on 40 attempts. Classmate Nicholas Stupp has thrown for 145 yards and a TD while adding 63 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
For Webster City, senior Kaleb Hansen leads with 178 yards rushing and a touchdown. Classmate Coyce Bertran is right behind Hansen with 164 yards rushing, as Alex Staley has a passing TD to Grant Arends.
On defense, Arends, Israel Torres, Boston Farley and Peyton Weisberg each have a sack, with Farley recording a team-high 12 tackles.
The Lynx lead the all-time series 9-3, winning four in a row from 2017-2020. Gilbert scored a 34-21 decision last year.
