The Webster City girls played back-to-back days to close out their week, dropping a pair of contests.

On Thursday, the Lynx (0-4 overall) fell to No. 11 (Class 3A) Humboldt, 46-37. On Friday, they dropped a 67-42 decision to Aplington Parkersburg.

Olivia Gallentine had a strong night for the Lynx against the Wildcats, scoring 20 points and pulling down eight rebounds. Alivia Burns added five points.

“Offensively, it was nice to see Olivia break through a little bit,” said WCHS head coach Marty McKinney. “She attacked (the hoop) well and got to the free throw line.

“We still have to be better with turnovers. It is tough to beat a quality opponent like Humboldt with 23 turnovers.”

Marissa Hedeen pulled down 10 boards versus the Wildcats, and Tristyn Wright had six.

“The defensive effort was tremendous throughout the game,” McKinney said. “Humboldt has two really good scorers in Morgan Mann and Ava Fischer. We guarded them with many different girls, including Alivia, Lovie Pruismann, Olivia, Tristyn Wright, and Izzy Grossoehme.

“They all did a great job of executing the gameplan and making it tough for Humboldt to score. I also thought we rebounded extremely well, led by Marissa with 10.”

The Lynx are back at home Tuesday for the fourth straight time, hosting South Central Calhoun. Varsity tip is slated for 6:15 p.m.

Starting at $3.46/week.
