Lynx drop contest to Dodgers

FORT DODGE – The Webster City baseball squad turns its attention to the tournament following its regular-season finale at Fort Dodge on Tuesday.

A little over 24 hours after clinching a share of the North Central Conference championship, the Lynx dropped a 16-0, four-inning decision to the Dodgers.

Webster City will take a 21-9 record into Friday’s Class 3A substate quarterfinal at Gilbert. Head coach Adison Kehoe’s team had won five in a row before falling to Fort Dodge (32-8).

Jaxon Griffith and Carter Mickelson both had hits for the Lynx, who went 12-2 this summer in league play. Braylon Dyvig and Boston Farley both stole bases.

Webster City was hampered by missing the strike zone. The Dodgers had only five hits, but Lynx pitchers walked a combined 14 batters and uncorked six wild pitches.

Tru McBride homered for Fort Dodge. McBride has 12 longballs this season, which is second in the entire state.

Dodger freshman Hayden Porter also went deep. Sophomore Cael Adams, the youngest son of former Webster City standout athletes Dan and Andi Adams, was the winning pitcher.

First pitch in the Lynx’s Substate 2 opener is slated for 7 p.m. on Friday. Gilbert is 13-14 and has lost eight in a row.

The winner faces either No. 5 North Polk or Hampton-Dumont/CAL.

Starting at $3.46/week.
