Lynx softball begins postseason

The Lynx (11-15 overall) begin Class 4A, Region 2 play with a quarterback round matchup against Ballard (11-19). First-pitch is set for 7 p.m.
With a win, Webster City would advance to take on second-ranked Carlisle (31-5) Friday night. Earlier this year, the Lynx knocked the then-No. 1 Wildcats off at the Dave Hilton Classic.
Sophomore Morgan Tempel and junior Amanda Lahr lead the Webster City offense, as Tempel is batting .366 and Lahr sports a .346 average. Tempel has a team-high three home runs, driving in 18 while scoring 20 times.
Lahr, meanwhile, has 27 hits with seven RBI. Hayden McCoy, also a junior, has driven in 14, while senior Morgan Hackbarth has 22 hits and 10 RBI.
Senior Alivia Burns has scored a team-best 18 runs and stolen 16 bases. Freshman Tessa Hansen leads the Lynx with 19 steals.
Inside the circle, senior Jakaela Cherry is 6-8 with 56 strikeouts while sophomore Briley VanDeer is 5-7 with 61 strikeouts and a 3.14 earned run average.
For Ballard, Madeline Schonhorst is hitting .395 with 11 doubles and three home runs while Zoe Wilson has 17 RBI. Emmalyn Kruse owns seven pitching wins and 37 strikeouts in 129 innings pitched.
