Webster City erased an early 2-0 deficit with four runs in the third, only to see Southeast Valley answer with five in the fourth. The Jaguars led 9-4 in the fifth before the Lynx plated three, following that up with two in the sixth.
âI was very pleased with our effort on the offensive side of the ball,ã WCHS head coach Brad VanDeer said. âWe ran the bases extremely well, were aggressive and smart. We havenát been able to say too many times this year that our offense was the difference, but this was the case.
âIt is encouraging to see as we approach Thursday at Ballard. We still have some sloppy plays defensively that we need to clean up. When we went on the stretch in the middle of the season where we were playing with the best teams in the state, we played every out like we had something to prove. Iám hoping we can get that mentality back before regionals start on Thursday.ã
The win snapped a six-game losing skid for Webster City, who heads to Ballard on Thursday for a Class 4A, Region 2 quarterfinal beginning at 7 p.m.
