Hawks ousted in tight regional match

OGDEN — The season came to a tough end here Monday night for the South Hamilton volleyball team.

After taking a 2-1 lead vs. Ogden in a Class 2A regional opener, the Hawks were topped in five.

Scores were 25-22, 20-25, 21-25, 25-20 and 15-10.

The Bulldogs (9-16 overall) advance to Wednesday’s quarterfinals where they will face Aplington-Parkersburg (33-6). The winner of that meets either Lake Mills or Belmond-Klemme in the semifinals.

For South Hamilton (7-25), they will look to build with a roster that includes no seniors. Sophomore Tessa Skartvedt led the team in kills with junior Sara Scheller, sophomore Riah Van De Pol, junior Claire Hewitt and freshmen Daytona Ferrie and Stella Martensen all recording over 30.

Another ninth-grader, Emma Lammers, led the way in digs with over 200 while Lammers, Aliya Erickson, Hewitt and Van De Pol all served over 87 percent on the year.

Starting at $3.46/week.
