DISTRICT TIME

CLEAR LAKE — District play begins this week for the Webster City football team, and a tall task comes with it.
The Lynx head to seventh-ranked (Class 3A) Clear Lake this Friday night for a 7 p.m. kick.
Webster City (1-3 overall, 0-0 in district) and the Lions (3-1, 0-0) played for the first time in six years last season, with Clear Lake pulling out a 10-2 decision.
Prior to that, the Lynx had won back-to-back games in 2017 and ’15 with the Lions taking each contest from 2008-14.
Following a win over Fort Dodge to open the season, Webster City has dropped three straight to Spencer, No. 2 (4A) North Polk and West Delaware under first-year head coach Andy Brim.
Junior Jaxon Griffith has taken over the lead back role, rushing for 376 yards with two touchdowns, with Cael Nixon adding 171 and Jayden Weinzetl 136. Luke Estlund has 130 yards rushing with three scores while adding two passing TDs.
Griffith, Aiden Hrnicek and the rest of the Lynx defense will be tasked with trying to contain a high-octane Clear Lake offense led by University of Iowa commit Thomas Meyer.
Meyer has 10 receptions for 259 yards with five touchdowns, as sophomore Jaxson McIntire has thrown for 764 yards with 13 scores. Titan Schmitt is the top back, rushing for 587 yards and five TDs.
The Lions won their first three, averaging 45 points per game, before falling last week to Waverly-Shell Rock, 31-30.
