Pulis competes at state meet

CORALVILLE — Maddie Pulis started wrestling as a seventh grader.

Now as a senior and a two-time state qualifier, she has made her mark on Fort Dodge wrestling.

The Webster City senior student advanced to the second round of the state tournament on Thursday inside Xtream Arena, but suffered two losses to be eliminated from the 170 pound bracket.

Pulis (33-10), the 11th seed, pinned Cedar Rapids Prarie’s Camryn Cothrell in 5:28 of the first round.

In the second round consolation match, she lost by fall in 49 seconds to Karissa Oldenburger (41-13) of Waverly-Shell Rock.

She was eliminated from the tournament by Kailan McEwen (26-14) of BCLUW.

In her two years as a Dodger, she compiled a career record of 52-18 with two state appearances. She won three matches in her state career.
