Playing at home has its advantages for Hawks

Sogard’s 78 leads way, SH advances to districts in Carroll

JEWELL — Playing at home certainly had its advantages for the South Hamilton boys’ golf team on Wednesday, as the Hawks placed second in a Class 2A sectional tournament to advance to districts at the Carroll Country Club next Monday.

South Hamilton shot a 342 to nip Panorama (343) by one shot. Carroll Kuemper claimed the sectional title with a 330.

All three teams advanced to the district tournament where spots in the state field will be on the line.

As he’s done throughout the season, Landon Sogard took the lead for the Hawks. He fired a 78 on the tricky layout to place third overall. Panorama’s Brice Taylor and Kuemper’s Maverick Schwabe both carded rounds of 76 to occupy the first- and second-place spots on the individual leaderboard.

Gavin Swenson turned in an 86 for the Hawks. Conner Deppe added an 88 and Ashton DeWitt finished out the scoring foursome with a 90.
