State track meet moving to 2 sessions on Saturday, ticket limitations

Lynx, Hawks will compete in morning

WEBSTER CITY — The third and final day of the state track and field meet is moving to two sessions next month.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union made the announcement yesterday, along with other protocols put in place for the three-day event, scheduled for May 20-22 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

The opening two days of the state meet have always been split between sessions for Classes 1A and 4A, and 2A and 3A, but Saturday has been one session for all classes in previous seasons.

The 2A and 3A classes will compete in the morning all three days. The 1A and 4A classes will step into the spotlight in the afternoon.

According to the release, current attendance limits will allow for two tickets per qualifying participant in the session in which they compete. Remaining tickets will then be made available to the schools.

Spectators and athletes will be required to leave the facility after each of the six sessions. Seating will not be assigned, but fans will be required to wear masks and sit in socially-distanced pods that will be scattered throughout Drake Stadium. Fans wanting to watch the shot put and discus will be allowed ticketed access to the fields located to the north of the stadium.
