Lewis sparks Hawks’ rout of Greene County
JEFFERSON — Six different players smacked at least one hit and the South Hamilton softball team rebounded from a loss the previous night to truck Greene County in a Heart of Iowa Conference contest here Wednesday night.
The Hawks blasted 10 hits and made just one miscue defensively in a 7-1 victory over the Rams (1-1, 1-1 HOIC).
Ahead 1-0 after three innings, South Hamilton (2-1, 2-1 HOIC) pushed five runs across in the third and fourth frames, and added another run in the fifth to pull away.
Emma Lewis went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and one RBI to spark the Hawks. Jessi Harms finished 2 for 3 and Tanna Thompson went 2 for 4 in her first varsity start. Anna Lammers, Brenna Barquist and Jessica Woodall all singled.
Lewis, Harms, Barquist, Woodall, Mackenzy Grady and Kate Barkema all drove in a run.
Harms controlled Greene County from inside the pitcher’s circle. The senior right-hander was touched for only three hits and she struck out two.
South Hamilton will be at home on Monday to host Nevada at 7:30 p.m.
