Alvayero’s PK pushes Lynx past GHV

GARNER –The Webster City boys’ soccer team made a foul in the box and subsequent penalty kick stand up and the result was the end of a three-match losing streak here on Tuesday.

Jorge Alvayero blasted the penalty kick past Garner-Hayfield/Ventura goalkeeper Landon Dalbeck in the 25th minute for the only goal of the match in the Lynx 1-0 victory.

The PK was awarded after Isaac Bernard was tackled in the box off a set piece throw-in from Will Tasler.

WCHS (9-7) now has two 1-0 wins over GHV (6-7) this season.

“There wasn’t a lot of action because the game was played mostly in the middle of the field,” WCHS head coach Craig Signorin said. “Both defenses were stingy.”

Both teams put just three shots on frame. WCHS goalie Carsen Johnson came up with three saves.

“Besides the first 15 minutes the defense was pretty solid,” Signorin said. “We didn’t give them any great opportunities.”

WCHS will wrap up the regular season this evening at home against Humboldt. Play will get underway at 5:30 p.m.
