HUXLEY — Everywhere Darrell Paulsen looked, his South Hamilton boys’ track and field team was scoring points at Tuesday’s Ballard Classic Relays.

Added up, the Hawks secured 16 medals and conjured up 160 points to place second in Class B behind Roland-Story (206).

“We just keep on getting better,” Paulsen said. “We had a lot of good performances and a lot of personal bests.”

The throws and jumps collected five medals — two silver and three bronze — to get the Hawks out of the gate quickly.

Cade Flaugh and Zeke Balderas were second and third in the discus with tosses of 122 feet, 5 inches and 115-8, respectively. Austin Busch heaved the shot 43-23⁄4, good enough for third. Brandyn Feighner grabbed the runner-up spot in the long jump at 18-9, and Carter Hewitt rose to third in the high jump at 5-8.

“We did really well in the field events,” Paulsen said. “I was really pleased with that.”

Logan Peters and Tanner Blue were individual champions on the track. Peters cruised to victory in the 800-meter run in 2:07.25, while Blue added gold in the 400 low hurdles in 1:01.98.

The Hawks also picked up wins in the 4×800 (8:29.98), distance medley (3:42.76) and 4×400 (3:36.76) relays. Peters, Cole Berg, Conner Hill and Freddie Lewis ran on two of the winning quartets. Quinton Grove, Zakee Newman, Brock Galetich and Sam Lewis were all on one.

Grove (4:42.69) and Newman (4:45.94) went 2-3 in the mile, while the shuttle hurdle (1:10.21) and 4×200 (1:46.10) relays were both second. The sprint medley (1:52.03) and 4×100 (47.67) were both third.
