No. 7 W-SR runs away from Lynx over final 3 quarters

WAVERLY — Seventh-ranked (Class 4A) Waverly-Shell Rock allowed Webster City to hang around for eight minutes here Saturday night.

And after that? Things got out of hand quickly.

Leading by three points after one quarter, W-SR (11-2) outscored WCHS (4-8) 42-13 over the final 24 minutes of play en route to a 61-29 non-conference win.

The Lynx put up 16 first-quarter points, but just 13 more over the final three periods.

“We played well the first 10 minutes,” WCHS head coach Nicole Muhlenbruch said. “Then we just couldn’t keep up.”

Grace Hoversten scored all 10 of her points in the opening period to lead WCHS. Taylor McKinney added nine points, while Zoey Woodle and Adalie Schwandt chipped in four each.

W-SR 6-foot-1 sophomore Abbie Draper led all scorers with 21 points.
