Moen fans 11, Lynx blast CGD, 10-1

CLARION – The bats came out of hibernation and Cameron Moen was in control on the mound, as the Webster City baseball team ended a four-game slide here Wednesday night.

Moen fanned 11 batters and tossed a complete-game five-hitter in the Lynx 10-1 rout of North Central Conference rival Clarion-Goldfield-Dows.

WCHS (6-14, 4-8 NCC), which stopped a five-game skid against league foes, rattled off 11 hits. Seven different players smacked at least one; Jordan Tanner and Dylan Steen led the way with matching 3 for 5 performances.

“Offensively we hit the ball better,” WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. “We need to now build on this and grow from here.”

The Lynx scored at least one run in all seven innings and moved in front for good with two in the second frame.

Tanner, the team’s lead-off hitter, drove in two runs. Steen laced a double, scored twice and produced one RBI. Bryan Ferrell also had a double.

Romel Martinez, Ty Schnathorst, Cole Reigelsberger and Max Hackbarth all added singles. Schnathorst, Hackbarth and Noah McKinney had one RBI each.

That was more than enough for Moen, who settled down after an erratic start.

“Cameron pitched effectively,” Fisher said. “He had a few walks and got behind a few hitters, but he battled back to throw strikes when he needed to.”

CGD (2-20, 0-14 NCC) had one extra-base hit – a double by Jacob O’Connor. Jarrod Littlejohn drove in the Cowboys lone run.
