Lynx 2001 state title team to celebrate 15th anniversary with alumni game Saturday

WEBSTER CITY – The 2001 Class 2A state championship Webster City softball team will celebrate its 15-year anniversary by getting back on the diamond on Saturday, and the public is invited to watch.

The second of the Lynx softball teams to claim the state hardware will be on the dirt at Lynx Field to play in an alumni game that is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. The squad will battle an all-star team of past WCHS players.

Competing for the 2001 team will be Jess (Kastler) Howard, Jenny (Flora) Vinzant, Mandy (Williams) Bargfrede, BreAnn (VanDeer) Drees, Taylor (Schaa) Wilmoth, Stefanie (Hill) Pirkl, Lauren (Nelson) DeVries and Meisha Pruismann. Teammates Cassie (Angstrom) Ihle and Kayleigh (Epps) Weig will also be in attendance, but will be unable to participate.

Drees was the first eighth-grader in the state to pitch her team to a state championship in 2001, but recent back and knee surgeries will keep her out of the circle on Saturday. Instead, 2013 WCHS graduate and fellow all-stater Kaitlyn Biere will join the champs for the day.

Schedule to play for the opposing alumni team include Maddie Anderson, Mikaleh McCoy, Hannah Myers, Grace Nelson, Catie Boyd, Tiffany Constable, Monica Trujillo, Erin Anderson, Kelsey Brown, Jackie Ubben, Melissa (Pagel) Plagge, Breanne (Kastler) Lesher, Amber (Angstrom) Kastler, Mady (Malek) Orton, Meredith (Tharp) Bargfrede, Tara (Flora) Trine, Jama (Anderson) Hisler, Jenny (Wirtz) Cherry, Lisa (Coons) Lyons, Ashley (Hilpipre) Weinschenk, Jessie (Ubben) Pedelty, Jaime (Brock) Davis, Jessica (Pevestorf) Hecht and Tracy (Jaycox) Bahrenfuss.

Sponsors of the alumni game include Second Street Emporium, Abens Realty – Luanne Tanner, First State Bank, Diamond In The Rough, Stony Creek Landscapes, R Company, The Trashman, Webster City Medical Clinic, Seneca Street Saloon, Neighborhood Realty, Wolfe Family Vision Center, Gridiron Family Grill And Sports Lounge, Maharry Family Dentistry, North Central Chiropractic – Jim Kumm, Leon’s Pizza, Hy-Vee, Fareway, Webster City Custom Meats, Gilbert Flooring and Paint, and Morning Glory Coffee Shop.
