Lynx, Toreadors will meet in 4A regional quarters

WEBSTER CITY – The Webster City softball team will get a second chance to try to beat Boone, only this time it will come in the postseason.

The Lynx (8-14) and 15th-ranked Toreadors (17-6) will meet in a Class 4A Region 2 quarterfinal at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 7 in Boone. The regional pairings were released by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Tuesday evening.

Boone prevailed in the first meeting over WCHS, 13-5, in a rain-shortened game in Boone last week.

Awaiting the winner will be 13th-ranked Newton (12-5), which will host the regional semifinal against either WCHS or Boone on Saturday, July 9. That game is also scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.

The other side of the Region 2 bracket will pit Waterloo East (10-16) against Independence (12-15) in the quarterfinal round with the winner advancing to the semifinal to take on fourth-ranked Waverly-Shell Rock (21-5) in Waverly.

The regional final will be held on Tuesday, July 12, and will be hosted by the highest remaining seed.

The state tournament will once again be held at the Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge, July 18-22.

WCHS played at Fort Dodge St. Edmond last night and will make the trek to Clear Lake on Friday for a North Central Conference clash with the Lions.
