GOLF BRIEFS

SH BOYS STRUGGLE AT TOURNEY: Inconsistencies in all aspects of the game pushed the South Hamilton boys’ golf team back to a ninth-place team finish in the 14-team West Marshall Invite on Monday at Lincoln Valley Golf Course in State Center.

The Hawks fired a 353. Grinnell won the team crown with a 315.

“We have a lot of things to work on,” South Hamilton head coach Mark Ullestad said. “We’re still young and inexperienced and don’t have kids that have played a lot of golf. We’ve got to figure it out, but that’s the challenge.”

Chase Jewell (85) and Colton Coy (86) were the only South Hamilton players to break 90. Jared Ullestad (90) and Nathan Sogard (92) also factored into the scoring.

Grinnell’s Lucas Scherf (77) was the tournament medalist.

SH GIRLS SECOND: The South Hamilton girls’ golf team shot a season-low 205 to place second in a non-conference triangular at the Jewell Golf and Country Club on Monday.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows finished at the top of the leaderboard with a 198. Eagle Grove was third with a 217.

“We are heading in the right direction,” South Hamilton head coach Kathi Fisher said. “We are still leaving a lot of strokes out on the course.”

Jasmine Hyland led the Hawks with a 47. Kenady Campbell recorded a 51, Katelyn Sogard a 53, and Krista Swenson and Jenna Woodall both had a 54.

Eagle Grove’s Katie Blasi was the medalist with a 43, two shots ahead of runner-up Shanee Tate (45) of CGD.
