WCHS junior Caitlyn Goebel on Dodgers’ 17th-place relay at state meet

MARSHALLTOWN – Webster City junior Caitlyn Goebel helped the Fort Dodge girls’ swim team score 21 points and place 23rd in the state swim meet at the Marshalltown YMCA pool on Saturday.

Goebel swam one leg of the Dodgers’ 17th-place 200 medley relay, which turned in a time of 1:53.83. She was joined by Kate Keith, Lehr Thorson and Gretta Leigh.

Taylor Hartley, just a sophomore, anchored the day for the Dodgers. She set personal all-time bests in the 100 (53.57) and 200 (1:56.24) freestyle races en route to ninth- and 11th-place finishes.

Hartley anchored Fort Dodge’s 14th-place 400 freestyle relay (3:40.97) and led-off the 17th-place 200 freestyle relay (1:41.02). Keith, Leigh and Thorson joined her on the 400 relay; Thorson, Leigh and Adyson McKinney completed the 200 freestyle.

Keith also finished 19th in the 100 backstroke (1:01.51). Leigh was 20th and Thorson 23rd in times of 1:09.83 and 1:10.34, respectively, in the 100 breaststroke.

Ames ran away from the field to claim the state crown with 355 points. Pleasant Valley was 1571?2 points back in second.
