Gourley leads Lynx with second-team all-NCC award

WEBSTER CITY – The Webster City volleyball team recently learned that three of its members were among the group honored for their season-long performances by the North Central Conference coaches.

Junior libero Gianna Gourley was named to the all-NCC second team, while senior outside hitter Kenzie Garvey and junior setter Taylor Schnathorst were selected to the third team.

A total of 24 players were honored with each of the three teams consisting of eight members.

Humboldt hitters Talyn Larsen and Abby Zaugg were both unanimous first-team choices, as was Algona libero Gabby Holmes. The rest of the first team consisted of Humboldt hitter Taylor Gidel and setter Morgan Weydert; Algona hitter Carly Seely; and Iowa Falls-Alden hitter Emma Juhl and libero Jewel Friend.

Gourley was the calming influence defensively for WCHS throughout the fall season. As a returning starter, she ranked eighth in the NCC in digs with 353, averaging 4.41 per set. She was also seventh in service aces with 46, right behind Schnathorst, who compiled 47.

Schnathorst’s versatility helped her get noticed. In addition to the aces, she piled up 315 assists to rank seventh in the league and also cranked out 117 kills.

Garvey, who transitioned from a defensive specialist to an attacker for her final prep season, led the Lynx in kills with 130. She also compiled 173 digs and 26 aces.

WCHS finished the season at 10-21 overall.
