Rapp spoils Sann’s perfect game bid in seventh inning

CLARION – Nate Rapp knew he probably wasn’t going to win the game as he stepped into the batter’s box to lead-off the seventh inning here Friday evening.

But that didn’t mean he couldn’t spoil what looked to be a memorable outing for Clarion-Goldfield-Dows pitcher Trenton Sann.

Rapp took the first pitch in the seventh into the gap in left-center field for a double that broke up Sann’s bid for a perfect game. The Cowboys still took the contest, 5-0.

Sann dominated NEH (3-14) through six innings. He finished with a one-hitter that included 16 strikeouts and no walks. CGD (8-13) played flawless defense behind Sann.

Rapp was on the other end of the pitching match-up. He went the distance as well and gave up seven hits.

CGD took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Cowboys added single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth frames.

Jarrod Littlejohn smacked a double and triple, and drove in a run for the Cowboys. Sann and Jacob Harvey also laced doubles and combined to drive in three runs.

NEH will be back on its home field Tuesday evening for an Iowa Star Conference game against Clarksville. The first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.

The Trojans will stay in Blairsburg to take on North Tama on Wednesday before closing out the regular season in Gilbertville against Don Bosco on Friday.
