Lawson places seventh at one of biggest national freestyle tournaments

WEBSTER CITY – Webster City sophomore-to-be Cooper Lawson made a big splash on the national wrestling stage last week.

Wrestling freestyle in the cadet division at 285 pounds, Lawson placed seventh at the ASICS/Vaughan Junior and Cadet Nationals – one of the nation’s largest freestyle and greco-roman tournaments – in Fargo, N.D.

Lawson won by technical fall over Colorado wrestler Sammy De Seriere in the seventh-place match. He was one of just nine Iowa wrestlers to place.

Lawson spent his freshman season in a Webster City singlet wrestling at both 220 and 285 pounds and compiled a 27-12 record. He was the North Central Conference runner-up at 220.
